Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. is an American video game developer and publisher based in Irvine, California. A subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, Blizzard is best known for its iconic Warcraft, Diablo, and StarCraft franchises, along with the popular team-based shooter Overwatch and the collectible card game Hearthstone. Over 20+ years, Blizzard has earned a reputation for creating immersive and engaging gaming experiences that foster passionate communities and have a lasting impact on the industry.

My Role

During my two years at Blizzard Entertainment's Korean office in Seoul, I was an integral part of the Web Services team, which aligned with the responsibilities of the current Battle.net & Online Products department at the Irvine headquarters.

My role involved a diverse range of design and operational tasks, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality online experiences for Blizzard's player base in Korea and Japan.

Specifically, I was responsible for: 

  • Designing promotional materials: Creating web pages, localizing visual assets, and developing new creative content for blogs and social media channels to support regional publishing teams in Korea and Japan. (More works available in Behance)
  • Supporting internal initiatives: Contributing to the design of internal tools and incubation projects to improve operational efficiency and explore new opportunities.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams: Working closely with UX designers, program managers, web editors, frontend/backend engineers, and QA to ensure seamless project execution and high-quality deliverables.
  • Improving user interfaces: Enhancing the user experience for web and mobile services, both in operation and under development, by contributing to UI design and improvements.

A Desire for Growth

This multifaceted role at Blizzard provided me with invaluable experience and a strong foundation in various aspects of online service design and operation. It also fueled my ambition to take on greater ownership and contribute to a larger scale. This ambition led me to pursue opportunities abroad, eventually landing at Ubisoft, where I was able to lead the design of the Ubisoft Connect homepage and contribute to a globally recognized platform.
